Tweetaways was dreamed up by me, @CircleR, after seeing a lot of contests being held on Twitter.
It usually went something like this:
- The contest holder asks their followers to tweet (or retweet) a specific phrase (like this post from the makers of Camtasia, the software I used to make my video demo).
- At the end of a period of time, the contest holder would draw a winner from those who have tweeted correctly.
I always wondered how they were picking a random winner out of all of those tweets, and thought it would be cool if we could "see" the drawing happening.
About the programmer
Awhile back, when looking for a Ruby on Rails programmer for a different (and very cool) Twitter API powered app soon to come, I came across Michael Daines on this list of Ruby on Rails programmers for hire. I contacted a few programers, but Michael was from Davis, CA, and since that's where I went to college, it made him slightly more cool than all the others. Big thanks to Michael for helping bring this site to life.
